Great News! - We are delighted to announce that Future Orchard has been awarded €3,430 through the LCDC Local Enhancement Grant, 2026.
This funding will allow us to purchase and install a new growing tunnel, helping us to extend the growing season, improve crop production and create even more opportunities for community involvement and learning. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the project and helped us reach this significant milestone.
We're planning to erect the tunnel on:
Thursday, Sep. 17th, 2026
This will be a fantastic community effort, and we are looking for volunteers to help with the build. More details will follow closer to the date. Please save the above details if you'd like to get involved.

We have had to put on 2 re-runs of our yearly Winter Pruning Course over recent weeks due to the high demand. We are really thrilled to have noted a growing appetite to learn more about growing fruit and nuts with many people 'Future Proofing' by committing to becoming more food secure and planting up their own food forests.
So our very own head gardner Chris Troy has formulated a wonderful day course on Designing & Planting an Orchard which will truly support your endeavours. We will have some refreshments available, but best to bring along some food for lunch. If you could please spread the word. Also know that a discount will be available to all shareholders who attend.
Places are limited and advance booking is via this Eventbrite link.

The demand for the courses currently being offered at our project are unreal and it's reassuring that a bright Future lays ahead for shareholders investment. A strong team of committed shareholders has emerged with fresh energy and ideas. A few new and very welcome members have signed up over the last year. We are again looking at the long-term objective of becoming a co-operative LTD.
We have received grants and generous donations and have worked very hard. There are dry stone walls, willow fedges and dead hedges all taking shape and a small quantity of juice and Apple Sauce was produced. We have created a heritage publication and delivered the best circular economy workshop in all of Ireland. We will put off the AGM for a while as we have applied for a substantial Climate Action Grant and if we are lucky it will impact the meeting (exciting).
Looking forward to seeing you at the orchard,
Elaine, Omar, Marion, Chris

Free Workshops: Apple thinning, Dead Hedging, Carbon literacy and exploring local history.
At the Boothouse Bar, Glanmire. Friends and Family welcome.
Great News: Future Orchard presents its first Heritage Week Event: Aug 19th at 6.30pm in our local Boothouse pub, Upper Glanmire. Tickets at the following link.
The Heritage & Biodiversity Office of Cork City Council awarded us funding towards us contributing to the 'Know your Foundations' theme of this year's Heritage Week. We have arranged to research the myth and written history of the weir and bridge on the orchard land. We are arranging some photography to pull the information together as a page on our website. Next year, if we feel able, we can apply for additional funding to turn the information into a local leaflet or booklet.
It would be lovely to see you. The Orchard will be open before and after for any visitors and as you know we have a push on to get a few new shareholders, so please feel encouraged to show the place off to the world.
We will be delighted to see you there!

This event is now Live on Eventbrite - for shareholders discount please use Voucher Code: 10APPLES
Please spread the word as the same course with our own fab Chris is also being run by Chris at Ballymaloe House at a higher cost. So it's great value to come to our own special event.
The plan is to plant all kinds of everything to mark the Spring Equinox 2025, with a small social gathering from around 5pm on the Saturday evening.
This Open to all & FREE Activity is led by Elaine who will also explain her vision for the project if anyone wants a tour. This is a great opportunity to bring along potential (and seriously needed) new Shareholders to see what collective action can achieve.
Venue: Upper Glanmire Community Hall ... In the geodome. If you have not been around for a while the orchard will be open from 12.30, or access it yourself earlier using gate code 2010 (our founding year). It really looks amazing. Any motions or Items for the agenda can be sent in via email. We will use the following ZOOM link for the AGM.
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81632768146?pwd=dWpnd0tReUtYVVJZRHh1NC9YOVZtUT09
Items that will be discussed at the AGM are the New Well blessing. Official opening of the new gate. Relaunch and future planning of the project. Sale of shares etc. Please know that you will be most welcome, either online, or in person.
Apple Juicing led by Chris TROY. Using the traditional scratter and press, Chris will demonstrate and invite participation from all and anyone interested.
For Children ... Pumpkin Carving ... we will do our best to make this a fun event with fabulous scary carved monsters. The wonderful Linda Brindly will lead. Any support is welcome. If you want to bring Pumpkins or Apples please do.
The neighbouring Spa project will have the Sauna fired up for a FREE TRIAL ... so bring a Towel etc. if you wish to partake.
At our recent AGM it was felt that it is important to get people out to enjoy the site. We still have to keep this year's event controlled as our new entrance is not yet open and the road is increasingly dangerous. Therefore we will not advertise this on facebook. It is only for our own membership, friends and people expressing an interest in joining. We really need to pick up a few new shareholders to keep the ongoing wheels of expenses oiled; and someone might join us if they see the wonderful potential that is at our site.
This will be held at Upper Glamire Community Centre's Geo Dome.
We have decided to go for an evening and this works best as there is lighting, parking, toilets and tea making facilities. Also better Zoom potential ... see pics of the venue below.
